Benjamin & Benjamin Insurance Group Pty L (B&B) is a boutique business insurance broking specialist. We focus on businesses with turnover between $5 million and $500 million across all industries and individuals with more than $3 million in personal assets.
We are a third-generation insurance business led by Managing Director Paul Benjamin. The Benjamin family has been dedicating their lives to solving our clients' business problems with smart insurance solutions since 1921.
Our family history in insurance

1921
Oswald D Benjamin was the youngest son of Sir Benjamin Benjamin, the Lord Mayor of Melbourne from 1887 to 1889. He opened the second Australian office of Bennie S. Cohen Lloyds Broker in Melbourne. It became the city’s biggest insurance broker.

1981
Rodney Benjamin retires.

2015
After working in insurance for more than 20 years, Rodney’s son, Paul Benjamin, starts his own boutique insurance brokerage, Benjamin & Benjamin (B&B).

1921 – 1944
Oswald remained the managing director of Bennie S. Cohen (Victoria) Pty Ltd until his passing. The company Oswald managed was later known as Lumley Insurance Ltd, and as of 2014, it was acquired by Insurance Australia Group Ltd (which also owns CGU Ltd).

1982
Rodney commences a general insurance consultancy. His clients were the State Government of Victoria, Municipal Association of Victoria, WorkCover, Victorian Port Authority, State Electricity Commission of Victoria, Medical Defence Association of Victoria, Coopers & Lybrand.

2023
​​​B&B acquired Insurance Made Easy (IME), expanding expertise and resources and strengthening B&B’s negotiating power with insurers. We’re now part of the McLardy McShane network.

1948 – 1981
Oswald’s son, Rodney L. Benjamin, works for Edward Lumley Group Insurance Broker and Underwriter. There, he became the Managing Director of Lumley Victoria and then Director at Edward Lumley Australia. He also served as the Director of Operations for the National Employers Mutual Insurance Company across Australia, which was the largest workers’ compensation insurer in the country at that time.

1991 – 2003
Rodney was the Director and CEO of Professional Indemnity Insurance Company Australia Pty. Limited, a captive insurance company for the Medical Defence Association of Victoria.

Our logo
Our logo is also part of the history of our family – it is the Benjamin Coat of Arms. This was conferred on Sir Benjamin Benjamin, when knighted for services to the community, Australia, and for being Lord Mayor of Melbourne from 1889 – 1891.
Our Coat of Arms has been allocated to Paul Benjamin by College of Arms, London, UK.
